Canon Point: Postgame, including bonus missions and past missions
History: Plot of the main body of the game!
In addition to that, though, Summer has had more adventures. First, she has traveled to the past numerous times via Celebi. The Temple Oracles have turned on the people and are causign problems for Pokemon inside the temples, and Summer promises a boy named Ravio - whose father is one of the Temple Oracles - that she’ll help. It turns out one of the other Oracles - Sabios - has used his Golden Armor to take control of the other Oracles, including Ravio’s father. After Sabios is defeated, Arceus appears at the Light Temple and causes problems, so Summer is forced to soothe its wrath. She accomplishes this and saves the past.
In addition, there are extra missions that take place after the main plot. The first requires Summer to return the normal bird Pokemon to the sky by soothing the three legendary birds who were woken up by the Pinchers. She also gathers the pieces of the Golden Armor for safekeeping. After capturing all the Pokemon in Oblivia, Summer gets another mission: she must rescue blue Eyes, who’s encountered a big problem underwater. Summer has to capture and calm Lugia, who is upset about all the litter in the ocean.
Finally, there are a couple of extra content missions. In the first, Summer finds Giratina in the Oblivia Ruins. She must capture it and return its Griseous Orb. The second and more important mission is the Pledge to Arceus. For this mission, Summer returns to the downed Sky Fortress, where Professor Hastings has been picking up strange distortions. These are caused by Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina, and stop once Summer captures them. However, the mission is not over: the way opens to Arceus, who is angry over the repeated use of the Golden Armor and the Sky Fortress and about to pass judgement on humanity. Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina remove Arceus’s invincible barrier, but Purple Eyes, having escaped imprisonment, shows up to encourage Arceus to destroy humanity. Summer captures Arceus to prove humanity’s worth - which successfully gets Arceus to forgive most of humanity. Purple Eyes is not so lucky, and is removed from that plane of existence by Arceus. Summer and the others pledge to Arceus that they will never allow the Sky Fortress to rise again.
Personality: In general, Summer is a relaxed person. She’s very chill, hard to upset, and easy to get along with. She’d much rather laugh off her own misfortune, and will respect others for doing the same - to a certain point. She knows when enough is enough, for both herself and other people, and will take action if she deems it necessary. As a Ranger, it’s Summer’s job to handle emergencies from annoying to apocalyptic, and she’s just as willing to do either. She’s a hard worker and a persistent one; she will always do her utmost to see a job through to the end.
Summer’s greatest strengths are her determination and her empathy. She’s an outright optimist, while still being very aware of how things can go wrong, and perseveres through hardship to get to the best ending. She’s fully committed to justice and the Ranger Union and takes her job very seriously. She will not hesitate to investigate, call, out, or prevent a misdeed, and will stubbornly endure anything to make things right. Summer is dedicated to helping other people and Pokemon, and has a great sense for emotion. She befriends others easily, and is very loyal. She’s never unwilling to lend an ear or a shoulder.
In tough situations, Summer tends to make good snap judgements. She isn’t really book-smart, and has accepted that going by the book really isn’t always the best way to do things. She follows her instincts instead. Generally, this works out for her, though whether it’s by destiny, skill, or sheer dumb luck is never clear. She believes that everyone could be capable of doing the same things she’s done, but she’s acutely aware that it could only happen under the right circumstances. She acknowledges that she’s had some amazing adventures.
At the same time, she brushes off praise and any mention of her being a hero. Most people mistake it for humility or just her casual nature, and while those do play a part in it, there are deeper factors. As much as Summer encourages people not to stress the details and doesn’t worry about them too much herself, she’s prone to dwelling on her failings. When she messes up, she goes over and over what happened and thinks of all the ways she could have done better. In particular, Summer blames herself for being unable to stop the destruction of Dolce Island. She’s determined never to let something like that happen ever again.
To that end, Summer has a bit of an obsession with speed. She firmly believes that if she’d just been fast enough, she could have saved Dolce Island, and that’s morphed into a stance that speed is everything: it doesn’t matter how strong you are if you’re too slow to hit your target, and many swift strikes are better than one heavy one. She takes life slowly, one day at a time, but pushes herself to be quick in every way, especially physically. This complex on speed is her lifeline; whether or not being faster would actually have saved Dolce Island doesn’t matter because if she believes it would, she can work to counter her helplessness. She fears being helpless more than anything else.
Because she spends so much of her time working out other people’s problems, Summer tends to work her own out by herself. If something upsets her, she won’t let other people know - not in words anyway. She goes to spend time alone, usually running and training herself, and won’t even take Pichu with her. Being called out on this will get her to admit that she’s got a problem, but it will take additional pressing to make her talk about it, especially if it relates to Dolce Island.
She has a lot of things that get to her. Mind control, hypnotism, or related things make her uneasy. She’s slower to trust people with purple eyes, people wearing armor, and people - especially old people - who drink tea frequently. She knows those are prejudices and doesn’t generally act on them, though. What will really get to her, however, is disrespect for greater powers such as legendary Pokemon, cravings for destruction, ambition for immortality, 0or disregard for life. Sure, she gets passionate about preserving the environment and stopping mistreatment of Pokemon, but those things will put her anywhere from serious tension to tranquil fury to a blind rage, depending on the degree.
Finally, promises and pacts hold special significance to Summer. She will never break a promise, ever. She swore to never allow another tragedy like Dolce Island to happen again, and she fully intends to spend every day of her life holding to that. She also made a pledge to Arceus along similar lines. She has a strong sense of duty, compelling her to keep trying, no matter how grave or bizarre her situation gets. This can lead to her getting overwhelmed or relying on gambles, but she always pushes onward trying to do the right thing.
